Sonar Community

The name of our caste 'Sonar' has been derived from the Sanskrit word Suvarnakar which means 'worker of gold'. Other names for our community include Sunar or Swarnkar. Legend has it that we are the descendants of one of two Rajput brothers who were saved by a Saraswat Brahmin from the wrath of Parasuram.
